Wow.. what a year it’s been! I feel like I write these reflection posts and every time I think the year just went was the craziest I’ll ever have, yet somehow I always manage to trump them. So what happened in 2019?

Working on my career
I feel like my job is probably the thing that has changed the most in 2019. I started the year working part-time, on a temporary contract as a Digital Marketing Co-ordinator, making up the hours and money working part-time in a supermarket. In January I managed to make my marketing role full time, and a few weeks later secured it as a permanent position. I came out of my awkward, shy, self and started to really learn about the marketing world.
Fast forward to September, restructures were happening at work which made my role redundant, but a new social media role available. A few tears, a lot of fretting and an interview later I scored a new position, and promotion as an Assistant Social Manager, doing what I love on a daily basis AND getting paid for it. Pretty cool huh?
It’s been an absolute roller coaster, especially with it being the first proper year out of university and working 9-5, but I already feel 100 times more confident in myself, my career choice and everything that’s to come. I wish I could tell post-graduate me not to worry!

Travelling a little bit more
One thing Jamie and I had set out to do at the beginning of the year was to travel a little more. Although very short notice, I decided to surprise Jamie with a trip to Amsterdam back in August for the weekend. We had the most amazing trip, made so many memories and promised to head back to possibly our favourite city ever again soon.
Our next trip abroad was our holiday to Rhodes where we were also celebrating 5 years together.. pretty crazy stuff! Rhodes was a new holiday destination for me, and although we did manage to explore the country a little, this was the perfect ‘do-nothing’ trip away. Falling just after my uncertain period at work, it was bliss.
Friendship, family and a lot of laughs
I feel like 2019 was a big year for friends and family. For the first year in practically forever, I haven’t been surrounded by my friends daily. I was always a bit nervous about what would happen when I left university, but the friendships that I made have remained. Sure enough, we don’t see each other every passing day, and it takes a little more organisation than before to meet up, but I’ve seen loved ones every month and feel so grateful to have found and proved those friendships.
Likewise with family, this year my second brother moved out, leaving me as the last at home. The family has always been important to me and despite both brothers in their own homes we’ve managed to get together frequently and enjoy our time together. They’re the things that really matter.
Tell me about everything that happened to you in 2019!
Lucy x
