12 things I learnt in my first week of University

I'm still alive, I haven't posoined myself so far, and I'm onto my third week of university.

It seems so crazy to me still that I'm here, on my own for the next three years building my future. I already feel so different as a person than what I did a few weeks ago. There have been tears, lots of burnt food, long boring lectures but there's been a lot of fun too, and after just a couple of week I thought I could share the top 12 things I've learnt so far:

  1. 1. If you're feeling homesick, go out and do something.
  2. 2. Don't leave biscuits and other fattening snacking foods in your room, you will eat them.
  3. 3. It's 100% okay not to go out every night of freshers.
  4. 4. It's 110% okay to want to get early nights!
  5. 5. Everybody is lovely, be brave and talk to people... make friends!
  6. 6. You can't live on pasta and noodles for the rest of your life.
  7. 7. Sometimes the best nights are those unplanned.
  8. 8. Start the semester as you mean to go on, be organised and work your butt off.
  9. 9. Make an extra effort with everything you do.
  10. 10. Fresher flu is real. And you WILL catch it.
  11. 11. Cover your room with photos and bring as many teddies as you like.
  12. 12. Do what YOU want to do.. you're here for yourself!

Upcoming Fashions for Fall

We're in the home stretch for Fashion Month. Paris is winding down, and soon we'll be left to our devices to find the new hot trends of the season.

Thankfully however, the recent shows have left us with plenty of inspiration to last until winter, and they're just as casual-chic as any fall style should be. Check out a few of these fall pieces that you'll want to grab before they're gone.

This season's dresses are all about long hemlines that hit between your knee and your mid-calf—a style of dress known as a "midi." Fits vary from form-fitting, to a loose, bohemian style with '70s influence, allowing midis to flatter most body shapes. Better still you can pair this style with everything from heels and wedges to booties and flats in order to reflect your desired look.

For inspiration, browse the dress collection from Lyst. The collection of different designers highlights the variety of ways the look is put to good use. For example, the Yepa Printed Midi shows how you can use the design to create a casual style, appropriate for most functions, while the Ekundayo Midi Dress is ideal for events that require formal attire.

Bags for this season are simple in shape, but fun in design. They resemble functional carriers like briefcases, lunch boxes, cosmetic bags, and even toolboxes. And their hard exteriors are limited to your imagination, in whatever print, texture, and colour that catches your eye.

If the box bag isn't your thing, try a suede purse adorned with fringe instead. It's just as hot this season, and it's easy to pair with some jeans and a flirty top. E! spotted Jessica Simpson with a suede and fringe purse recently, and they said her fall outfit made running errands "look effortless."

I can plan an entire look around a pair of shoes, but sometimes I just need to slip on a pair and go. Thankfully this season's ankle booties are as chic as they are comfortable and universal.

Once again, suede is particularly popular for this season, but you can also experiment with leathers (or faux leathers). Try a neutral colour in brown or black to keep your outfit options open. You can also check out Bustle's recent article on how to pair them with everything from skinny jeans and leggings, to skirts and dresses.

Fall is already upon us, and it's likely that most of you have already felt a chill in the air. If you haven't filled out your fall wardrobe yet, now is the perfect time to do so!

I never realised how much of this outfit was H&M before typing this up, but who can blame me? H&M is brilliant. I think of it as a slightly better primark, it's clothes are so cheap but always so on trend. This could be the last time you see this background in a post of mine for a while, I am officially moved into my new room at Uni. I've had a great two weeks so far and can't wait to share some uni-related posts with you soon!

HAT, SKIRT & JACKET - ASOS // TOP - RIVER ISLAND // TRAINERS - NEXT I finally found a hat to fit my pea-shaped head!! Thank you Asos. Too bad it's approaching winter and I'll barely get any wear out of it now until next summer. This is the only outfit I managed to photograph while in NY which is really bad of me, but it is in the best location ever.. in front of the whole of the city!

A few weeks ago before my trip to NYC I decided to get into the American mood and make myself some american pancakes. I'd never tried eating nor making them and I'm pretty chuffed with how they turned out! If you want to give it a go like me, I've written up a lovely little recipe for you to follow. It's super simple!

100g plain flower
1tsp baking soda
1 egg
100ml milk
1tsp brown sugar
a pinch of salt

The first step is to seive both the baking soda and flour into a bowl, seiving will help it catch air to make your pancakes super fluffy! After this, add the milk, sugar and salt, as well as the yolk of the egg - keep the egg white in a seperate bowl. Mix the mixture until it forms a batter consitency.

Next you want to whisk the egg white. I decided to use this cute little whisk, although, if like me you lack in arm strength and stamina, use an electric whisk! Once it is stiff and forms peaks, begin to gently fold it into the batter.

Heat up your pan, if it's not non-stick chuck on a bit of butter first. Scoop the batter into the pan, making the pancakes as big or small as you like! I managed to make 4 smaller sized ones. They don't take long to cook at all so make sure you keep an eye on them.

When they're all done, stack them up and enjoy them with whatever toppings you choose!

Finding motivation to work out

Shoes* - Sports Shoes // Bra/Crop Vest* - New Look // Top - Sweat Shop // Bottle - Sainburys

Buy some new gear.. if you're really serious.

If you're really serious about getting into shape, you wont mind parting with some money. Of course this isn't necessary if you've already got plenty of gym wear from all those other occasions you decided to get fit, but it definitely helps. Let's be serious, who doesn't love buying clothes?!

Make a workout routine

By knowing exactly what you're going to do when you get to the gym makes it a whole lot easier. Decide how long you'll run for, how many sets and how many reps and you'll save yourself a lot of pondering.

Make goals

Seeing progress is what makes going to the gym so worthwhile, so make some goals! Whether that be losing a certain number of pounds, lifting a certain weight or running a certain distant in a certain time frame.

Plan a timetable

For me, this is one of the most important things to do to stay motivated. At the end of every week go and plan your week ahead, fitting in those gym trips. This way you leave time and know exactly when you're going. If you miss out session you'd planned the guilt is almost unbearable!

Reward yourself

Hard work get's rewards. Go eat some damn chocolate.

Naked Palette - Sephora // Jumper - H&M // Trainers - Footlocker // NYPD Tee - NYC GIFTS // Pooh - Disney // Underwear - Victoria's Secret

You can't go to New York City without making any purchases can you? Although the majority of our time was spent doing touristy things, we did manage to squeeze in a little time to spend some dollar. Of course, I had to buy some new trainers with the price being a lot less across the pond! I've been after some casual ones for Uni for a while and the Nike Theas are perfect. I also (finally!) bought the naked palette. I'm super happy with the naked 3 palette I already have but have been dying to get my hands on the original for years. Sephora was a beautiful shop. Next I got a cute blue jumper from H&M. I love the lace detailing. From VS I got a beautiful khaki set, the bra is racer back with a lovely lace back. My mum found this cute little pooh bear in the Disney Store which is the perfect size for when I go away on holidays! Finally, I had to get a NYPD tee to remember the trip didn't I?!

P.S On Sunday I move to my new home at University. I'm so scared but excited to start a new adventure. I have a few posts scheduled but bear with me if I'm a bit vacant for a while, I'll be back to normal asap x
