One thing I’ve loved as we transition into Autumn this year is getting more out of my Summer clothes. Let’s face it: the British summertime is always short and sweet, yet with summer style being my favourite, it’s great to get that little bit of extra wear out of my summer purchases. Plus, it’s way more sustainable too.
Here are some examples of how I’m styling my summer dresses for autumn/winter:
Styling summer dresses in autumn/winter
The reason I love summer style so much is because of the colours. Pastels and bright florals seem to thrive over summer time, while autumn/winter seems to be all about the dark, neutral colours. This Stradivarius dress is a gorgeous day dress in an adorable pinky-purple gingham. In the summer, it’s perfect with bare legs, sandals or trainers and maybe a little bit of SPF.
With the colder months though, a pair of tights for that extra layer of warmth is a must. Don’t be afraid to add some dark tights just because it’s a summer dress – paired with some doc martens you get a really contrasting outfit and I love the tougher feel too. The weather right now is still quite mild, so a coat or jacket will probably do here. But as the temperature drops, chuck on a oversized knit and you’re good to go.
Midi dresses are another go-to for me all year round. I thought this floral Boohoo number was a no-go for the colder months because of its super light material and split leg. But chucked on with with some docs to toughen up the look, and with a roll-neck underneath for extra warmth, this is now my go-to winter look.
Granted, the legs are still on show but with a pair of safety shorts and/or some clear tights, I think this is still the perfect transitional outfit.
