I don’t think I’ve ever worn such little, minimal make-up as I am right now. A lot of people are probably in a similar situation – with lockdown came a dress-down not just in fashion sense, but in my make-up efforts too. I dropped the daily make-up routine almost immediately back in March, and I could probably count the number of times I’ve done a full face of makeup since on just two hands. There’s just something about the extra 20 minutes in bed that I can’t resist, and we all know our laptop camera quality isn’t that good for my work colleagues to be able to detect whether or not I concealed my under eyes, am wearing mascara or bronzed my face.
Despite that, there have been some days I fancy feeling a little bit more human and making the effort. And on those days, I opt for the five product face. Read on to see what those five holy-grail products are.
The 5 product face for a minimal make-up look
Yes, the work from home life does mean I’m getting more sleep than ever, but try telling my dark under-eyes that. If my five product face were to become my one product face, I think concealer would be that one product. Fortunately my skins behaving right now, so it’s a brightening concealer I’m reaching for, as opposed to a concealer to cover any blemishes. And for that, I love the L’oreal Infallible Longwear concealer.
Next, the foundation I’ve been using on repeat since I bought it, is the Bare Minerals Matte Foundation Powder. Not just because it’s super quick and easy to use, but it also gives me that little bit of extra coverage I’m after without feeling too heavy on the skin. I have quite oily skin, so a powder foundation helps to keep the shine at bay too.
A look isn’t complete without brows. If I was doing a full face of makeup I’d usually reach for my trusty Urban Decay basics palette, but I’ve been opting for a more natural look with the help on Benefit Brows recently. The Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing gel is a quick brow-fixer, giving them a bit of extra volume whilst the gel helps keep them in place all day.
I like that extra definition on my eyes, so mascara is the 4th step in my 5 product face. For this, I’ve been reaching for the LimeLife by Alcone Making Waves Waterproof Mascara. It has a really great brush which distributes the product evenly. Plus, it’s waterproof so is ideal if I get caught in the rain on my lunchtime walk!
For finishing touches, I like to add a bit of colour to my complexion. For that, I use the Pixi Summer Glow Palette. This is such a handy multi-use palette (so maybe a cheat in this five product face) with the perfect bronzer, blush and highlight shades included.
