It feels like 2018 really is flying by. We’re already halfway through October – Christmas will be upon us before we know it. We all know how much I love a good ‘sit down and chat’ blog post, and with us entering the final quarter of the year, now feels like the perfect time for one.
One of my favourite things to do every once in a while is to sit back and reflect as well as look forward to the future, planning does the world of good for my mental wellbeing. There are only a few months left of 2018 but there’s still plenty on my goals, plans and to-do lists, so that’s what I’m sharing today.
Who doesn’t love setting themselves a good few goals? Back in summer I wrote this post and expressed my want to get back into a gym routine. That’s been a total success and I’m currently gymming 3 times a week with two leg sessions and one upper body. I’ve been really loving weights again so one goal of mine is to reach a new PB for squatting…60kg! I’m currently doing reps of 50kg and it’s slowly getting more comfortable, so I’m hoping I can hit a clean 60kg soon and who knows maybe end the year with an even higher PB!
Alongside weights, I realise my need to get back into some cardio. Back when I was at university I was doing netball 5 days a week so I definitely got my cardio fix. Since returning home I’ve decided to focus on my job and blog, for now, so joining a team isn’t on my radar, but I would like to get back into some running. My key issue with running previously has always been 1. boredom and 2. always focusing on the time or distance, rather than just running. So one goal is to get my Nikes back on and run a bit more, whether it be for 10 minutes, 1k, 2k, or 5.. just run! I’m hoping to recruit my mum for some girl power motivation…
My final goal for the next few months is to really find my style with blogging and Instagram. I’ve felt a bit lost and in the middle of it all recently, and I’m hoping with a bit of focus and experimentation perhaps I’ll really find my groove with blogging and my ‘place’ in the blogosphere. I’m keen to play around with some different Lightroom presets and maybe give some different styled photography and posts a go.
I’d initially planned for a quiet end of the year, especially after the madness of New York, but it turns out I actually have a few exciting things in the diary! First and foremost, Jami and I are celebrating our 4th anniversary together tomorrow. We’ve got a voucher for a fancy restaurant with sea views (brown english sea, but we can pretend we’re somewhere exotic) so we can enjoy a nice steak and drink in celebration. We don’t do anything fancy for anniversaries, but it’s nice to share cards and make an occasion of it every year – I love a good date night!
November is looking like a quieter month, but not without plans. Jamie and I are going to our first house party since uni and best of all it’s Halloween fancy dress themed. It’ll be nice to get back to my university ways, go extra on the outfit and enjoy getting a bit tippled with J – it’s been a while!
This week I also managed to get hold of some tickets to see Mumford and Sons for Jamie and I. I love a good gig and the last time I saw them was in Nottingham with my family a few years back.
I’m also very lucky to get another little break in before the end of the year. I had a few days to take off of work, so mum and I have booked a 4-day break to Bath. We love our city breaks and Bath is one that’s been on the list for ages. We’ve booked the cutest looking air bnb, and we’re planning on shopping, experiencing the famous bath spa’s and visiting the Christmas markets! It’ll be a lovely way to end my year and get excited about the festive season!
I feel like I don’t have a lot on the to-do list right now. I’m settled at home, settled in my new job, and everything seems to be chugging along as it should. It’s the new year when my to-do list will be the length of my arm again.
But for now, I suppose it’s time I started some end of year reflections. I decided to take a step back from the intense analysis of my blog stats, but I would like to go into some depth with it all at the end of the year. It’ll be nice to look back on my blog, discuss what’s gone well and where the improvements for next year lie. Focusing on the numbers too much can be damaging, but I know this will really benefit me in designing plans for the new year. On that note, it’s probably time I started some rough plans for 2019 too. A content calendar and research for new topics would be a good place to get started.
Christmas is a matter of months away and as much as I hate it, I need to get Christmas shopping. I know how stressed I get leaving presents to the last minute so I’m keen to get started early so I can really relax and enjoy the festive period! A few years ago I went really crafty with my wrapping so it’d be nice to have the time to do that again, real Zoella style!
What have you got happening in the last quarter of the year? Any goals, plans or to-do’s on your list?
