This outfit, in particular, the ‘Small Actions Matters’ tee and last week’s ‘World Earth Day’ inspired me today to write a little post on the environment and ways we can save it. As a geography student, I am well aware of the issues our planet faces. I’m definitely not as ethical as I could be, but there are little things I do which I know makes a difference, and if we could all make this little extra effort in our day-to-day lives, perhaps we wouldn’t find ourselves in such a rubbish situation. Today I thought I’d share 5 super easy ways you can help the environment.
We’ll start easy. Recycling is the easiest thing you can do when it comes to helping our little old planet. Most things nowadays can be recycled, so make the effort to get a recycling bin, or head down to the local bottle bank or dump and recycle your waste! Make an effort to buy products with recyclable packaging, or better yet, try to buy products with no waste at all. Buying local produce can make a massive difference in the amount of waste you produce, and it can be better for your local community too!
Get a metal straw
Still pretty easy to do! Disposable plastic straws are one of the top 10 most common items of trash found in the ocean. With the plastic straw ban coming into play in UK restaurants and bars, it’s time you played your part and got yourself a reusable metal straw. I bought my own last week on eBay for just 99p.
Reduce your meat intake
51 percent or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture. It’s absolutely crazy when you sit down and look at the facts of the impact meat has on the environment. I’ll be the first to admit I eat a lot of meat. I love a good chicken curry, and I can never resist a steak. Recently I’ve been thinking about how many meals I eat where meat isn’t necessary, doesn’t add anything to the plate and could be replaced with something else. I’ll be honest and say I’m never going to be able to go veggie, but reducing my meat intake is something I can, and want, to do. It’s an easy step towards saving the planet and it’s something I’m really looking to work on personally these next few months.
Bottles, coffee cups, bags – use as many reusable items as possible. I use a reusable bottle every day – both my Hydrate M8 bottle and my Chilly bottles are great alternatives to plastic bottles that could end up in landfill or causing a danger to our oceans. Coffee cups are the same. Most coffee shops nowadays offer a discount if you bring in your own cup so you’ll not only be saving the planet you’ll be saving money too!
Make an effort
I think the most important part of taking care of our planet is that you need to make an effort.Turn off lights, don’t leave appliances on standby, pick up litter, recycle – do everything you can to help our little planet get by. It’s time we stopped being so lazy and selfish and thought about the future. Our great-great-great-great grandchildren will thank us for it!
Do you do any of these things to help the environment? What other ways can I do my bit and help out?
