We’re going to be homeowners!!! It’s taken me a while to sit down and write a blog post about our latest little (read: huge) development in Jamie and I’s life, but here we are. If you’re a follower over on Instagram, you’ll have seen that back in June, Jamie and I spilt the beans that we’re buying a house. Exciting times…

At the beginning of the year, Jamie and I knew this was the year we wanted to buy our first home together. We’ve been together for nearly six years now, we’ve been saving for a while, and we finally feel ready for the next chapter. We got our mortgage advisor meeting booked in and started viewing houses. Then along came ‘rona, and we pretty much accepted that it wasn’t going to happen in 2020.
Jamie and I went a good 12 weeks without seeing each other at all, then a few more weeks of socially distanced meet-ups… not exactly the summer we’d envisioned. But the pandemic did have one silver lining (and when I say one, I mean one, uno, un): the housing market was hit. On my birthday we viewed a property which was originally out of our price range, and having been told we could negotiate on price, we absolutely fell in love and reserved a few weeks later.
Buying a new build
We never thought we’d end up buying a new build, mainly because of the price, but I believe everything happens for a reason. We saw so many properties that needed some work in one way or another, and the new build was just perfect for us. An opportunity to design our own kitchen and have a white walls and a clean slate was just what we wanted – we just didn’t think it’d be possible!
At the time of writing, we’ve officially reserved, received our mortgage offer and exchanged contracts (i.e. BIG adults moves happening over here). The stressful stage is out of the way and now it’s simply 5 months of waiting for our home to be built from the ground up… which still doesn’t feel real – how many people get to say they watched their home get built right in front of them?!
It’s not very often I write a more personal, diary-like blog, but this just seemed like far too big of a milestone to keep quiet. The next few months will be spent selecting our kitchen, carpet and bathroom choices, eagerly visiting the site on a weekly basis to see the build process, and saving even more for allllll the furniture…
I’m super excited to share this next journey of ours with you all. If you want to follow our journey more closely, check out our instagram @athomewithjucy.
