*I recently did a paid promotion on Instagram for Foamie, but this blog post isn’t a part of that collaboration. I’m just genuinely a big fan!

I’ve become increasingly aware of the sustainable choices I can make in my day-to-day routines recently. When an opportunity came up on Instagram, I ordered myself a Foamie shampoo bar and decided to give plastic-free haircare a try.
Foamie is on a mission to “Think Outside the Bottle” and re-invent the way you think about your bathroom routine, with planet-friendly solutions that function as you would expect, smell incredible, and leave a lasting effect on your skin and hair.
Foamie’s website touches on some of the reasons we should reduce our plastic waste with over 300 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, and 60% of that ending up in landfill or natural environments. And if that’s not enough for you to consider plastic-free shampoo bars, then maybe this review can help.
Plastic-free haircare with Foamie’s shampoo bar
I selected the Hibiscus Shampoo Bar for Damaged Hair, not just because my hair is in need of a little love since lockdown, but also because it’s pink. Why else? The hibiscus and nettle extract provides strength, elasticity and repairs damaged hair, ideal for bleached or coloured hair.
All shampoo bars from Foamie are pH-Balanced with a long-lasting scent that is super gentle on your hair. They’re also 100% free from soap, sulphates, parabens and other nasty, as well as vegan and cruelty free.
How do you use it?
The shampoo bar is used a bit like soap – lather it up in your hands, and then apply directly to your hair. You can build it up and get rid of the bar once your hair is lathered up enough – then it works just as any other liquid shampoo.
The shape of the Foamie bar makes it really easy to use, and the little tie also helps avoid any of that insanely annoying ‘I can’t keep hold of this soap’ stuff too. The tie can also be handy if you want to hang the bar to dry, but I’m quite happy to just leave it on the side. Landofsize also shares some great tips for getting the most out of your shampoo bar.
Does it work?
If it’s not obvious enough by this blog post’s title, yes. Foamie has totally converted me to ditch the plastic and go for the bar. Not only does it smell amazing, but it also does just as good of a job as my normal shampoo, and it’s great to know I’m doing my bit for the planet too.
If you want to give the Hibiscus shampoo bar a go, you can do so here. See all of Foamies range (body and hair care) here.
Have I convinced you?
