As the darker nights draw in and colder weather arrives, you can almost guarantee my skin to have a little freak-out. Autumn/winter is always the time of year where my skin struggles a lot more with break-outs, so I need to really invest a little more in a good skincare routine.
I’m still very much working out what my skin does and doesn’t like, but these are the products I’m using right now.
For make-up removal, I’ve recently had to go back to Garnier’s Micellar Water. I much prefer a cleansing balm, but my holiday lashes meant I had to avoid a cleanser that contained oils. Garnier’s Micellar Water is a failsafe for me though – with a few reusable cotton pads, it’s jobs a gooden.
I’ve been alternating between a day and night cleanser recently. For mornings I’ve been using The Body Shop Carrot Wash – an energising face wash that’s made from organic carrots (and is vegan too!). I picked this up on a whim while in-store a month ago and I’ve absolutely loved using it. It lathers really well and leaves my face feeling a lot cleaner and oil-free in the mornings. That said, I do always feel as though I need to follow up with a moisturiser after.
For night time cleansing, I’ve been using the Foreo Night Cleanser*. This is more exfoliating than the Carrot Wash, with small exfoliating beads throughout the creamy formula. Despite this, I find it to be a much gentler cleanser for night time, not stripping quite as much out of my skin.
For moisturiser, I’ve been using up the Simple Kind to Skin Moisturiser. I picked this up as it was a small and handy tub for me to take away on holiday, and I haven’t had any complaints with the product either! I feel like Simple is a brand you can always rely on – no sh*t. It’s a really light formula which leaves me with a lovely glow, and not too shiny either.
For extra treatment, while I was away I LOVED using the Pixi Caviar Balm* – a leave-on face mask that gives your skin that extra hydration. From lounging in the sun all day, this was a product my skin was definitely grateful for.
Alongside this, I really liked using the Pixi Glow Tonic Serum* too. Another overnight treatment, this exfoliates and soothes your skin for a brighter, more radiant complexion by morning.
For any blemishes, I’m using the Ecooking Acne Serum*. This is formulated with salicylic acid to sweep away bacteria, impurities and excess sebum from the surface and has been a lifesaver when it’s come to *that* time of the month. If I notice any blemishes appearing under the surface of my skin, this has definitely reduced or even stopped them from surfacing.
Finally, although not for the face, I had to mention The Body Shop Hemp Handcream. My mum SWEARS by this stuff and I can totally see why. I’m always getting dry hands in the winter, but applying this really thick cream each night makes such a difference.
