Ever since I started tanning, the hardest thing I’ve found is the aftercare. How do you make the fake tan last as long as possible, and how do you prevent it from going patchy?
Allow me to share with you my top tips for fake tan aftercare, and everything I’ve learnt so far.
Looking for the best fake tan? My current favourite is the Wonder Serum from Skinny Tan, which you can see my review of here.
Fake tan aftercare
Once you’ve got the perfect summer glow, you’ll want to do everything you can to make it last. Let’s be honest – the shaving, exfoliation, application and everything else involved in tanning is a CHORE, and you want to do everything you can to have to do that as little as possible.
The first step to making your fake tan last longer comes before. Make sure you exfoliate before you tan, ideally the day before you apply your tan. This ensure’s you’ve got rid of all the dead skin cells.
Similarly, you’re going to want to shave a good day before any application of tanning too.
Once you’ve got your tan on, make sure you shower smart. Keep showers short and not too warm either. Avoid long bath soaks. Skinny Tan have also bought out their moisturising body wash to help clean and hydrate the skin.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
The final and best thing you can do is moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! Try to keep your skin as moisturised as possible, but avoid anything with lots of oils in it.
Recently I’ve been using Skinny Tans Moisture Hit Body Lotion. Made with natural extracts of cocoa butter, shea butter, caffeine, antioxidant raspberry oil and moisturising aloe vera and guarana, I’ve applied this every morning.
Skinny Tan have also released their Melting Moisture Body Balm in the aftercare range. Similar to the lotion, this has coconut oil, shea butter, cupuacu and raspberry seed oil in it, and is a lot thicker than the lotion.
I opt for the balm every few nights to give a deeper hydration.
