A couple of weekends ago my Mum and I had a weekend away in Plymouth. Heading back to my fangirl days, Jay from The Wanted, or you may know him as the winner of last year’s Strictly, was starring the main role in new musical – Big! The musical is based on the classic film BIG, starring Tom Hanks and Jay played ‘big’ Josh Baskin. Of course, being both mum and I’s favourite celeb ever, we had to head down and support him!
The 7 hour round journey on Friday was long but totally worth it for such a brilliant weekend. The train led all the way around the coast giving us some pretty awesome views! Mum and I stayed in The Jury’s Inn, right by the city centre and conveniently opposite a Primark (winning!). On Friday we settled in, had a look around the city before dusk and then ate at Revolution. Look how pretty their water is! After a couple of beers at the hotel we headed out and met Jay at the stage door after his performance! You can see that picture on my instagram here.
The following morning we headed out for breakfast. We checked out some of the marina restaurants and opted for Boston Tea Party. This was a super cute cafe with all of the cakes. Having made some pretty awesome American Pancakes myself a few weeks ago, I chose to have the Pancakes with fruit compote and greek yoghurt. Safe to say it was a good choice!
For the rest of the day we did a whole lot of shopping! In the evening we got ready for the musical! I wore a high neck black top layered with my primark dress, and wore my newly-bought boots. I took a few photos but I’m hoping to get this look on the blog properly soon!
Big The Musical was AMAZING. I may be biased, but Jay played the role of big Josh Baskin perfectly. If you’re unfamiliar with the storyline of Big, a young boy called Josh comes across a Zoltar and wishes to be big, little does he know, this wish comes true. Waking up an adult, big Josh Baskin finds himself having to live in the real world, scoring a job at a toy company and falling in love.
Knowing Jay’s personality before scoring this role, I can honestly say he matches big Josh’s character perfectly. The musical was full of emotions, I was laughing throughout and even shed a tear a couple of times! Big hits Dublin over Christmas, and will be heading to the West End some time next year – I will definitely be heading down to see it again (this time a slightly shorter journey!).
Do you fancy seeing Big The Musical? Have you been to Plymouth before?!
