Whether lockdown didn’t mean much changed in your day to day life, or if it resulted in a complete u-turn, I think it’s fair to say the lockdown has affected every one of us in some kind of way. Having a lot more time to myself over the last 3 months, there are definitely a few things I learnt in lockdown.
What I learnt in lockdown
I like my own company
I think I knew this already. I always said when I was at university that I actually quite enjoyed my own company, but the lockdown has reinforced this even more. I’m perfectly capable on my own, and sometimes it’s actually quite nice for it to be like that. Being on your own isn’t the same as being lonely.
…but I bounce off of people
As a quite reserved, quiet person, I really need people to help me boost my confidence and sometimes, mood too. In an ideal world? I’d be working from home 70% of the time, but going into the office regularly just for a little bit of that human interaction.
I also noticed how much I depend on groups of people to switch up my mood. I can be in the worlds worst mood – and I stay stuck in that rut at home. Going into the office brings a whole new mindset which is totally needed sometimes.
My time is important to me
Urm, duh? I appreciate time.. SO much more now I’ve been working from home for a long time. That extra 30 minutes in the morning to actually enjoy my breakfast and have a slow start to the day? Golden. I think in a post-lockdown world I’ll be looking for little ways I can have a bit more time in my day to day life.
I spend way too much unecessarily
My bank account? The healthiest it has ever been. Truly. Turns out going out every weekend with your boyfriend and pals is spenny. Lockdown has probably come at the ideal time – Jamie and I are officially moving house at the end of the year and we’re in full time saving mode. Savings from petrol, those cheeky trips to maccy d’s and drinks on a Saturday night will be doing wonders for my future home interior.
It’s ok to feel
Feelings. Wow, hasn’t there been a lot of them recently? The start of lockdown fully rattled me in a way I wasn’t expecting it to. On the whole, it’s not actually been that bad, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had my wobbles.
In lockdown I learnt that it’s ok to feel. This isn’t normal – it’s fucking strange, unknown and everybody is going to have feelings about it, whether you want to or not. I learnt to cry and know that it’s ok.
I like to be ‘doing’
I’m very much a ‘doer’. I like to be busy and productive. But I also love me a sofa day binge watching queer eye and eating way too many crisps. Throughout lockdown I was studying for a diploma, whilst working full time. After my final exam I was straight back into blogging with all this inspo – on the same day.
As much as I recognise the need for a slow day, I also know that I’m best doing, whether that’s work, studying or blogging. I enjoy it.
Now that probably wasn’t your ‘I leant to knit, bake and speak 5 languages’ you were expecting, but it’s something. What did you learn in lockdown?
