A look back at 2016

Saturday, 31 December 2016

So 2016 is almost over and the time for a bit of reflection of a whirlwind of another year has come around again. I feel like although the year started in one of the worst ways possible with the loss of a loved one, I have achieved so much, pushed myself out of my comfort zone and had an all round brilliant year.

The first few months of the year were tough, in between uni and home, spending time with family, but I really saw Uni take a turn around in my second term. I found first term super tough but I'm so glad I stuck with it because I really started to reap the benefits by the time Easter came around!! I also decided to push myself this year, and last Christmas I decided to apply for a 12 week Summer Internship with the council, something really different to what I'd ever done, and after a gruelling applicant day in March, I found out I'd bagged the job.

I dedicated my Summer to working a 9-5 and actually really enjoyed chucking myself into a routine and doing something completely new to me. At the end of Summer Jamie and I went on our very first holiday abroad together to Spain for 2 weeks. We had the most amazing time and I feel so lucky to have such an amazing human being in my life! A month later we celebrated our 2 year anniversary up in Norwich.

Finally, the end of 2016 has been beginning my second year of uni, studying and working hard but also trying to make the most of my social life too! I still haven't quite hacked the drinking and partying lifestyle of a uni student, but I'm definitely getting better at mastering the no-hangover night outs!

Overall, despite a rocky few starting months of 2016, this year has been brilliant. I feel like as a person I've achieved so much, a lot of which would be really insignificant to many, but to me mean the world. It's left me so excited to see what the next year brings, I can't wait to get out there, make a hundred more memories and kick 2017's butt!

What have been your highlights of 2016?

Presents from Santa

Wednesday, 28 December 2016

Coat & Jumper - Primark // Jeans - New Look // Belt, bag & trainers - ASOS
I feel like this background is soon going to get boring. I need to be brave and drag the bf out with me to do photoshoots in public spaces but before that I need to learn how to pose!! I always feel like such a bafoon in front of the camera. Hopefully 2017 will be the year I can get my hands on a more portable camera (Olympus Pen please please please get yourself in the sale soon!!) and I can really start to branch out with my blog photography more. It's always been something I've wanted to get into and improve but I've never found the time.

I feel like one of the rules of christmas is to wear your new clothes ASAP. Actually, I got a super cute jumpsuit on Christmas Day, of which I then stripped in the living room and put on straight away. It has to be done, right?! Anyway, I got this Jumper and Jeans from Santa this year. The jeans are boyfriend fit and soooo comfy, I can tell they're going to get a lot of wear this year. I also love how my trainers and jumper match. Cute, huh?!

Home for Christmas

Monday, 19 December 2016

Coat & Scarf - Primark // Jumper - Topshop // Skirt - New Look // Boots - Clarkes

You know when you get your bae to take some blog photos for you, and he tells you you've got some good shots, so obviously you trust his judgement? This is what happened with these photos. It wasn't until just now when I downloaded them that I look minging in every single one! I managed to settle for these two that were half-decent..

I'm finally home for Christmas!! First term of second year is officially done and I can't get over how much better uni has been for me the second time round. I am super happy to be back home for a month though, and I've even managed to back myself a little job to earn myself some money while I'm back too!

I'm hoping I'm going to be able to get a few blog posts up while I'm at home, but I'm super busy with work, essays and spending plenty of time with my loved ones. I am however thinking of picking up a more portable camera that I can carry around with me out and about for blogging, as opposed to my chunky DSLR. I've had my eye on the Olympus Pen e-pl7 for a while now.. what do you guys think? A worthwhile investment?!

I probably won't get another post up until after Xmas now, so I'd like to wish all my lovely readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Hope you all get spoilt and eat ALL of the pigs in blankets!! Thanks for supporting my blog this year, despite it's bare patches! I can't wait to see what 2017 brings!

Review: Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

Wednesday, 30 November 2016

A year or so ago I tweeted about how awful my skin was, when Sanctuary Spa very kindly got in touch and offered to send me their 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask, of course I accepted!! Since then I've been meaning to review it, and I have finally got round to it! Side note, this is my first proper attend of a flat lay photo - how am I doing?!

Onto the review, the mask is said to be "Intensely purifying yet non-drying. This self-heating mask uses warmth to help open up pores so charcoal & kaolin clay can help draw out impurities from deep within the skin. Containing soothing & calming myrrh essential oils, the mask helps to remove excess oil to leave skin feeling purified, cleansed & silky-soft."

I don't know what it is, but there's something I love amount Clay or Mud masks and this is no exception! The texture of this mask is fairly thick which I love, and you can definitely feel the heating effect when you put it on! It seems to work brilliantly on my oily-type skin, pulling out all the impurities I have. It's not a pain to remove, I use a bit of warm water with a flannel, and afterwards my skin feels smooth and refreshed!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone with combination or oily skin to use once a week to give your skin a bit of a lift up!

A weekend in Plymouth

Saturday, 26 November 2016

A couple of weekends ago my Mum and I had a weekend away in Plymouth. Heading back to my fangirl days, Jay from The Wanted, or you may know him as the winner of last year's Strictly, was starring the main role in new musical - Big! The musical is based on the classic film BIG, starring Tom Hanks and Jay played 'big' Josh Baskin. Of course, being both mum and I's favourite celeb ever, we had to head down and support him!

Dungaree Dress

Tuesday, 22 November 2016

Dungaree Dress, High Neck Top & Tights - Primark // Boots - Clarks // Bag - ASOS

What's that? An outfit post? Am I feeling ok?! It seems like forever since I've got myself in front of the camera for my blog. Outfit posts are always my favourite posts to read and are what drew me into blogging all those years ago, but I just find them SO hard to make!! I spend 80% of my days in Sports gear at Uni and unfortunately don't have the funds to buy loads of super cute outfits like I used to (sob). Nonetheless, I've given it a go today! It was certainly a struggle, especially with no tripod and poor university room lighting. I really need to invest in a good camera and maybe some lighting for these posts, so if you have any suggestions, please send them my way!

Now, onto the outfit. Following on with the poor university theme, this look is practically all Primark. I'd been after a cute dungaree dress for a while and just couldn't find one I liked, then I found this beauty in Primark!! I then picked up this high neck top, as I practically lived in my black one last year. I feel some more colours will need to be purchased soon! My mum picked me up some of the thick maybe-fleece-lined (?!) tights last week and oh. my. gosh. They are SO comfy!! I'm not a big tight/dress/skirt wearer because I prefer the comfort of trousers but these tights are a real game changer!! Finally I paired this look with my super comfy boots from Clarkes. I got these last year and I can tell they're going to be the kind of shoes I keep for years.

I know this post isn't the best of quality - I'll try and improve for my next and drag in some friends and family to take some snaps for me!

Christmas Gift Guide for Him under £20

Saturday, 19 November 2016

Beard Oil // Boxers  // Cap

Men? The hardest people to buy for. Unfortunately, my family is mostly men so I struggle with this issue very often! I feel like Men are a lot harder to buy 'safe' for too, but my best bets are boxers, or soapy-washy-well groomed stuff! What are your safest options for gifts for men?

Recipe: American Pancakes

Wednesday, 16 November 2016

Today I come to you with a recipe, and a yummy one at that! I am totally kicking myself for not taking more photos when J and I made these American Pancakes a few weeks ago, I didn't even think about blogging about them at the time! Nonetheless, here is how you can make these beauties...

Romantic date ideas that wont break the bank

Saturday, 12 November 2016

There's nothing I love more than dates with Jamie, making memories is so important to me and I am so lucky to be able to do that. However, being a student without a constant income, I've had to think of a few date ideas which won't break the bank. Here are some of our favourites!

Christmas Gift Guide for her: Under £20

Tuesday, 8 November 2016

I have a love hate relationship with gift buying. I love it when I find the perfect gift for someone, but that doesn't happen very often!! When it comes to girls there are a few rules I like to go by. First is stationary - what girl doesn't love stationary?! I love desk pads, diaries, anything to help keep me organised. Secondly, homeware is another safe bet in my eyes - how cute is this cloudy light and cushion?! What are your 'safe buys' for girls christmas gifts?

Monthly Roundup: October

Thursday, 3 November 2016

October was a pretty eventful month for me. I went back to Uni for my second year, celebrated 2 years with Jamie, and partied lots in between! Have a look at the photos below to see how much fun I've had..

I dyed my hair pink-ish // I went out to the theatre with my mummy // Partying at the UEA freshers ball!
New year = new netball team! // celebratory cocktails // Two whole years with my very best friend
Halloweening // geography degree = maps // Dressed as an elephant for the Noahs Ark Netball social!

Now October is over, it's Christmas, Right?!

Winter Warmers Wishlist: Puffers

Tuesday, 1 November 2016

one // two // three // four // five

Every time winter comes around, it's inevitable that I find myself lusting over a new coat. This year I am loving the puffer jackets trend and after coming to terms with the cost of a North Face one, I've turned towards the high-street takes. How cosy do all of these look?!

What did I do this Summer?

Friday, 2 September 2016

Having finished University late May, and officially moving out of Halls in June, I have had quite possibly the longest summer I've ever had. Yet, somehow it's also ended up being the busiest and most productive and rewarding summer too! I had a couple of weeks to rest before I jumped into my Summer Internship I had managed to bag back in May.

Summer wedding

Monday, 29 August 2016

On Saturday I had my first and only wedding of the summer, the marriage of my cousin Sarah to Alex! It was such a beautiful little church wedding and an old barn reception, ultimate wedding goals! I wore a pinky peachy dress from Asos, paired with my Missguided clutch and New Look heels, although by the end of the night these had swapped to a much more comfortable pair of sandals!!

life recently #23

Monday, 4 April 2016

another valentines spent with this amazing man // 2 weeks in spain booked with my favourite // old sibling love
fantastic first BUCS season with the netball girls // happy birthday mum // jamie got me a pink controller cover!
shotley front // reunited with some of the girls // out in norwich with jamie('s bum)

I've had a lot of fun these past few weeks! Semester two of uni came to an end, along with the BUCS netball season, Jamie and I finally booked our first holiday away together and I've spent lots of time at home with old friends and my family.

Comfort zone

Monday, 28 March 2016

Dress - ASOS // Heels - Office

I've been a truly awful blogger lately. I've been back at home for nearly 3 weeks now but just haven't had the drive to post. I've been busy writing essays, starting my revision for summer exams and spending time with my loved ones. I hate not being able to keep consistent with my blogging but I guess that's just the way I work at the moment!

This is what I wore for a night out on campus when Jamie came up a month or two ago. It's definitely a bit more daring for me but I loved jumping out of my comfort zone and I'd love to do it a bit more often!

I'm back to uni on Friday for a fieldtrip to Devon, then have 3 more weeks of lectures before exam season officially starts. It's safe to say I'm super nervous! I can't believe my first year is almost over with!

The tie-up

Saturday, 20 February 2016

top - primark // skirt - asos // shoes - office

The tie-up trend has definitely been a favourite of mine this autumn/winter, and I'm excited to see it continue into spring/summer. Primark has been my favourite shop as a student, and I loved this top so much that I got it in a second colour too! Their homeware is looking so gorgeous right now, I can't wait to spend some money on it for some goodies for my new room next year! We're signing for our house today, I can't wait. Posts may be a bit sparse in the next week, it always seems with my course you're free from work for weeks then all of a sudden everything comes at once! My deadlines are all in the upcoming week so I won't be quiet for long!

five product face

Wednesday, 17 February 2016

Being a uni student, I am one hundred times more in love with my bed than I should be. There are actual feelings there. This love means sometimes, my personal appearance is slightly neglected and my usual one hour to get ready is cut short. That's where the five product face comes along..

the £19.99 backpack

Monday, 15 February 2016

Bag - La Moda

I'm definitely a backpack-over-handbag kind of girl, throughout high school I suffered with my unpractical handbag.. having so much stuff but so little room you have to have a suitable highstreet clothing shop plastic bag (Hollister was always a keen favourite in my school) or walking home to a strap breaking from the sheer weight of all those books. In year 11 I ended my suffering by buying a rucksack, and I've been a fan ever since.

This Christmas I decided it was time to purchase another backpack which I could use at uni. After pondering on a few websites I chose this one from La Moda, and I can't praise it enough. Although a gift, at £19.99 it's ridiculously inexpensive, it's the perfect size for all my books and also has plenty of nifty little pockets inside to hide my keys and phone - there is nothing worse than rooting in the bottom of your bag for them! It does have a slight bit of wear and tear on it, but I'm willing to overlook that. I'd never purchased from La Moda before, but after this experience, and by the looks of all their beautiful backpacks they have online, I'm definitely keen to purchase again!!

The Topshop wishlist

Saturday, 13 February 2016

Online browsing is dangerous, but even more so when you're a student. Morning lectures leave me with whole afternoons of boredom, leading to me gawping at clothes, shoes and accessories which I can't have. Topshop has always been a favourite of mine - the prices are sometimes a bit steep but you can't fault them for their fashion! I had a look at the new in page and picked a few of my favourite. The khaki obsession has made another appearance in the block coloured top, but a few different pieces are in there too like the super funky holographic clutch which would be perfect for my nights out at uni!

My skincare holy grails

Thursday, 11 February 2016

I've always struggled with my skin having frequent breakouts ever since I reached my teens, and subsequently have always been very conscious of it. I have tried every skincare treatment under the sun from vigorous scrubs to homemade remedies. I feel now like my skin is the best it's been in a while and other than age and 'growing out of it' it's down to my current skincare routine.

I went to the doctors a year or so ago and was prescribed a gel called Epiduo for acne. It took a while for my skin to get used to it, it made my skin really dry and sore originally but now it works wonders. The idea is to place the gel on any breakouts every night to help them clear up, and I've found although it doesn't make those pesky spots disappear immediately, it definitely helps them clear up sooner, or if I'm super speedy I can get rid of those dreaded under the skin spots before they surface! Epiduo is the only spot treatment I use, and for the rest of my routine, I strip it right back using Cetaphil's cleanser and moisturiser/moisturising lotion.

Cetaphil is for sensitive skin being soap and fragrance-free and I find that's just what I need. I hate the thought of rubbing lots of nasty chemicals all over my face.

For makeup removing, I'm a big fan of Garnier's micellar water and have repurchased it many times. A couple of pads does the job brilliantly, and any extra makeup left over is soon taken off with cetaphils cleanser.

I think, especially being a blogger, it's very easy to get caught up in a big extravagant skincare routine which involves lots of steps with lots of different products, and while I have no doubt it works for some, sometimes I think less is more. I've found a very simple non-time-consuming routine and my skin is loving me for it. What's your go to skincare routine? Do you have any holy grail products?

ootd // <3 // decorating the uni room
miss my boy // lcr // beautiful morning sunrise
best flatmates ever // reason for dating jamie? his cute as f cat // best friends!!

Getting back to uni has been a lot of fun as you can see - I've had lots of nights out and made lots of memories. I've also managed to pop back home once to catch up with my favourite furries - my little doggie Bobbie and Jamie's adorable cat Mitzy.

Valentines Gift Guide for her under £15

Monday, 8 February 2016

Here is the second lot of valentines gift guide, this time for the females in your life! Again, all are very simple and generic gifts but things I know I'd be very happy to recieve. My favourite has to be the book - I'm a complete sucker for a bit of romance and when better to be a soppy git than valentines?! Also just a word for that clutch bag, how gorgeous?! It would be so perfect for summer.

Top - Asos // Skirt - H&M // Heels - Office

A week or so ago my two best friends, Alice and Anna came to stay up in Norwich for a night. We went out to the on-campus club night and celebrated Anna's 19th Birthday university style! I had such a fun night and really love getting the chance to dress up and do my hair and make-up all fancy.  I even wore the killer heels again, and this time ended up with only one blister at the end of the night. If that's not a good result - I don't know what is! As you can see the khaki and black theme is still going on. Anna curled my hair because I'm absolutely useless at it and I loved it! Apologies for the messy backdrop - 3 girls in one tiny uni room results in a lot of mess in a very small space! I had such a fun couple of days and am already planning when they can next make a visit!

Valentines Gift Guide for him under £15

Thursday, 4 February 2016

Valentines is just around the corner, and if you're like me, you're completely unprepared for it! Jamie and I don't do big presents for valentines, instead have a nice meal out just spending time in eachothers company. This year we've decided to get a nice hotel room for the night. Men are so hard to buy for, it takes months for me to think of ideas for just Christmas and Birthdays alone! I've found a few general pieces that are perfect for any woman buying valentines gifts on a budget!

Dealing with homesickness at university

Wednesday, 3 February 2016

All my life I knew I wanted to go to university, and after finally starting last September I can safely say I really underestimated how hard I was going to find it being away from home, despite only being a 40 minute train ride away. I cried a lot, I missed my family and boyfriend constantly and quite simply, I struggled! I'm now on my second semester at university and feeling a whole lot more positive about the next 3 years. I still get those days where I feel homesick, but I've slowly learnt how to deal with it. Here are my top tips!

A round up of January

Monday, 1 February 2016

January was an odd month. I always think it's a bit of a funny one, the Christmas and New Years Celebrations are over and you've got to find a way to get back into routine. Luckily I had an extra week or so at home before I headed back, and got to spend some time with my mum. I miss her the most at university - having two older brothers, we always get along as best friends.

Saturday, 30 January 2016

Every girl is a sucker for shoes, and as much as I love a good pair of heels, I will always have a much bigger love for trainers. Comfort first. Asos is my go-to for shoes, with it's very often student discounts and super easy free delivery and returns service. Today, just to remind me of my very poor student financial status I've decided to make up a little wishlist to feast your eyes on.

one // two // three
My first three are slightly more muted choices of trainers. I've always loved the classic slip on vans, and wish my feet weren't so bloody awkward so that I could have myself a pair, and I love the grey tones of these nikes too.  The adidas superstars are a new favourite of mine and I love the subtle animal print on these ones!

four // five // six
I need to invest in another pair of converse - I think everyone needs a pair! I love the subtle shimmer in this black and white pair. My fifth pair of trainers on this wishlist have got to be my favourite - the copper toe is so cute! However, admittedly a bit too bold for me! Finally, this puma pair are the loveliest mint green shade which would be perfect for summer.

The New Look Knit

Thursday, 28 January 2016

Jumper* - New Look // Jeans - Topshop // Shoes - Footlocker // Bag - La Moda

Now, if you know me, you know I love a good knitted jumper. Being at uni and having very limited storage space makes winter a nightmare, with one jumper taking up the space of 3 tees and 2 pairs of jeans. I've had to leave some of my beloved knits behind, but I have managed to squeeze a few new ones in, including this New Look one. New Look have a massive range of jumpers and knitwear but this particular piece stood out - I've been crushing on the colour khaki for a while now, and love the look of khaki and black together. The curved hem detail and high neck make it a real win-win jumper and definitely worthy of that limited space in my uni wardrobe.

New heels

Saturday, 23 January 2016

You know something's wrong when the only reason you want to go out is to show off your new killer heels. Every Tuesday at uni is the on-campus club night. The music isn't great, the floors are sticky but it's the best place to be on a Tuesday. It's so bad that it's actually really quite brilliant. So, with my new years aim to really get stuck in at uni this year, last Tuesday I attended the oh so famous LCR, and all because I wanted to show off my shoes. They were comfy, up until about 3am when I realised my toes were cut and covered in blisters, thank you, alcohol. But would I endure this pain again? Of course I would, because they're killer heels.
